You Must Change Something!
Looking in the mirror, and seeing yourself in a photo are two different things. When you look in the mirror you can focus on certain parts of yourself. Blur out the other, less desirable parts. When looking at a photo, especially a candid one, you see what others see. The image as a whole.
This was my awakening.
When I saw this picture I knew something needed to change. I already knew I was out of shape, none of my pre-baby clothes fit, and I wasn’t being consistent with my food and water intake. So basically everything I helped clients explore and accomplish in their own lives, I wasn’t doing for myself.
Something had to change.
I have always been a go big or go home kind of gal. Basically the opposite of what I coached other women to do. But it keeps me dreaming big and after breaking the goal down into smaller, easier to handle pieces it is basically the same thing as starting small, Right?!? Last time my goal was the couch to Marathon. This time…
This will be the first virtual race that I have signed up for. Basically, I am addicted to the adrenaline and static power in the air at the start to an actual in-person race. Those early morning starts. Those butterfly’s in your stomach. The positive self talk of trusting your training to carry you though on race day. It wasn’t always this way. Read this blog to learn more about my start in running.
However, something about this challenge of completing 3,521 miles over the course of a year or possibly two has got me hooked. Breaking it down we are talking about covering about 10 miles a day (to accomplish the whole thing in a year’s time).
This seems crazy to me to even think about it now. In fact, it kinda scares the shit out of me.
Those miles don’t have to be just running miles though. Running, walking, biking, and swimming all count toward the mile count.
Basically I have the opportunity to make my own journey of fitness including all the training and races I want to participate in. Dabble in bike riding. And have the opportunity to get back into swimming. This sounds like my way of getting into the big scary world of triathlon without yet letting my brain in on the secret.
The bigger and scarier the goal, the more you grow along the way. I am excited to take this journey. There will undoubtedly be many ups and downs encountered along the path. But like the phoenix who rises from the ashes, I will come out the other side of this having learned many things and growing as an individual. Plus the added bonus of actually fitting into some of my clothes again!
This is where you come in…
Over the course of this journey I will be blogging and talking about my journey on Facebook. Not just about running, or the potentially hilarious task of actually learning to be a biker. I’m talking about really getting down to the core. Real talk about fears, the difficult journey of change, balancing this with my other priorities (hello, I have a 2 year old), food (because this is the fuel of life), inspiration, and so much more. Basically I am going to lay it all out for you to see.
I ask you to join me on your own journey. My goal is to create a community where we can share our struggles and triumphs around the common goal of leading a healthy lifestyle. I encourage you to choose a big goal and work towards it with me.
